Isha Dami
Isha Dami is a self-taught Toronto-based artist, whose passion for art brought light back into her life. The use of vibrant colours in her artwork is a reflection of her positive and carefree persona. Primarily working with acrylic medium, Isha uses everything from traditional wood panels, blank walls, plexiglass, old furniture, statues and even pregnant bellies as a canvas to all her art pieces. She strives to create work that captivates the viewer and leaves them with feelings of happiness, just as it does for her.
Since childhood, Isha’s creative instinct has projected itself into many areas of her life, resulting in numerous accolades and praises from her mentors and peers. During her early adulthood, Isha experienced waves of depression and turned to painting as a therapeutic outlet. Through darker periods, it felt natural for her to paint with vivid colours, which in turn, slowly helped her heal. The splatter-finishing technique in Isha’s work is her way of expressing the love and joy she feels while painting the piece, as a part of the piece itself.
“The intent of my work is simple, to project positivity through colour and uplift the viewer’s spirit through a message.” – Isha Dami
Isha has taken part in several art exhibitions over the years, as well as produced artwork for Influence Toronto, Canada’s largest entrepreneurship conference. In 2020, Isha created her first mini-series, High on Life, which reflects a piece of her own personal journey. This series was part of the Colours of the World summer exhibition at Twist Art Gallery in Toronto, Canada.
Meraki is a word of Greek origin that resonated with Isha when she was just a teenager. It means to do something with soul, creativity and love; to put something of yourself into everything you do. Isha practices meraki in her daily life, but especially with her paintings. Each piece is unique and created with passion and love for her craft.
As a versatile artist, Isha’s art will continue to evolve as she does, with the intent remaining the same.
